Why it exists

Almost every SAT score calculator online applies a single conversion curve to every practice test. That is a reasonable-looking shortcut, and it is wrong.

College Board publishes a separate conversion table for each of its 8 paper practice tests, and those tables disagree with each other. At a Reading and Writing raw score of 40, the lower bound ranges from 470 to 540 depending on which test you sat. That is a 70-point gap, on one section, produced entirely by using the wrong table.

There is a second, quieter problem. The printable practice tests have 66 Reading and Writing questions and 54 Math. The adaptive Bluebook tests have 54 and 44. Calculators routinely take a raw score from one and look it up in a table built for the other, and the student has no way to notice.

This site was built to do those two things properly, and to show its working so you can check it.

What it does differently

  • It asks which test you took first. Before it asks for a single score, because the answer changes the arithmetic and not just the label.
  • It reports a range. Not as a hedge. College Board's own tables publish a lower and an upper bound, and their guide explains that the method is a simplified and slightly less precise version of the real one. Reporting one number would discard information the source deliberately included.
  • It links the source for every table. Every result names the document it came from and links the PDF. If a number here is wrong, you can prove it.
  • It says when it does not know. There is no official conversion table for adaptive Bluebook tests, no published routing threshold, no published score ceiling for the easier second module, and no official National Merit cutoffs. Those gaps are stated rather than filled in with something plausible.
  • It reproduces source errors rather than hiding them. Three rows in College Board's published tables are internally inconsistent. They appear here exactly as published, flagged, because quietly correcting a source makes it impossible to check this site against the document it cites.

Who runs it

SAT Score Calculators is edited by SET_EDITOR_NAME, who is responsible for every figure on it. It is an independent site, not a test-prep company, and it does not sell tutoring, courses, books or consultations. There is nothing to upsell you to, which is deliberate: a tool whose job is to give you an honest number should not also be trying to convince you that the number is a problem it can solve.

How it is paid for

Advertising, once the site qualifies for it. That choice has consequences the design accounts for: ad slots are placed after results rather than between the inputs and the answer, containers reserve their space so nothing shifts under your finger as you read, and there are no interstitials, no sticky units and no auto-inserted ads.

There is no email capture, no account wall and no gated download. Every competitor in this category gates something. Not gating anything is the position this site is taking.

What it will not do

It will not tell you a score is good or bad. Scores are shown against the published distribution, in neutral type, with no colour coding, no encouragement and no commiseration. A 15 year old who has just scored below what they hoped does not need a website's opinion about it. What they need is an accurate number and honest context, and those are two different jobs.

It also will not run countdowns to the next test date, or claim that students who use it score higher. That is manufactured anxiety aimed at minors.
