Compared with the middle 50% SAT range of each college's enrolled class, from the federal IPEDS survey. Sections are summed, so the true composite band is a little narrower. Test scores are one factor in admissions, not the decision.

    Why a Bluebook score can only ever be estimated

    The digital SAT is scored with Item Response Theory. Your scaled score depends on which specific questions you answered correctly and how difficult each of those questions was, not simply on how many you got right. College Board's own technical documentation states that two students may have the same number of correct answers and still receive different reported scale scores.

    That is not a gap in what has been published. It is a property of the scoring model. A raw score to scaled score table cannot exist for a test scored that way, which is why College Board publishes none and why any site claiming to have official Bluebook curves cannot show you where they came from.

    What this calculator does instead

    In estimate mode it adds your two module counts, takes that raw score as a proportion of the section, maps the proportion onto the paper tables' raw scale, and looks that position up in all eight official tables. The headline number is the median of what the eight tables say, rounded to 10. The range under it is their full spread, lowest lower bound to highest upper bound. The band is wide on purpose: it carries the genuine disagreement between official tables plus the error introduced by the mapping.

    How many questions can you miss on the digital SAT

    Reading the chart from the top down gives the practical answer. The table below shows the lowest raw score whose estimate reaches each section score, and how many of the 54 Reading and Writing or 44 Math questions that leaves room to miss. Because two questions per module are unscored pretest items, some of those misses may cost nothing at all, but you cannot tell which.

    Estimates. On the real test the harder second module makes each correct answer worth more, and the easier one makes it worth less, so your own result can sit anywhere in the range.

    How to read your Bluebook score report

    1. Open My Practice. Finished Bluebook tests appear in the My Practice section of your College Board account, with the scaled section and total scores already computed.
    2. Open the question review. Every question is listed by module with your answer, the correct answer and whether you got it right. Count the correct answers in each module: up to 27 per Reading and Writing module and 22 per Math module.
    3. Enter the four counts above. The estimate should land near the score the app gave you. If it sits at the edge of the range or outside it, that is the adaptive scoring at work, and the guide on why the same raw score gives different results explains what happened.

    The most useful thing to do once your real score is entered is to change one module by two or three questions and watch the total. That shows which section has the cheaper points for you right now, which is a better study plan than any generic advice.

    Each module carries exactly two unscored pretest questions, eight per test, placed at random and indistinguishable from the rest. You cannot tell which of your wrong answers cost you anything. The full mechanism is explained here.

    Digital tests and paper practice tests are different scales

    The printable practice tests have 66 Reading and Writing questions and 54 Math, all of them scored. Bluebook has 54 and 44. A raw score of 40 means something quite different on each, which is why the calculator asks which you took before anything else, and why a paper-test table cannot simply be applied to a Bluebook count. The paper tests are the ones with official tables, so if you want a number you can cite, print one and score it on its own page:

    Bluebook already gave you a better number

    If you finished a Bluebook practice test, the app scored it using information about your specific form that is not public. That number is more accurate than anything this or any other calculator can reconstruct. The useful question is not what your score was, but what it means, which is where the percentile tables, the score distribution and the college match above come in.

    Is there an official conversion table for the digital SAT?
    Not for the adaptive Bluebook tests. College Board scores those with Item Response Theory, which weights individual questions by difficulty, so there is no single raw to scaled mapping. Official tables exist only for the printable paper versions of the practice tests, and this page uses all eight of them to produce its estimate.
    How many questions are on the digital SAT?
    98 in total: 54 in Reading and Writing and 44 in Math. Only 90 of them count, because each of the four modules contains two unscored pretest questions.
    How long is the digital SAT?
    Two hours and 14 minutes of testing, plus a 10-minute break. Reading and Writing is two 32-minute modules, Math is two 35-minute modules.
    Does the second module change my maximum possible score?
    College Board publishes no score cap for either route. The only official figure is a simulation of a student who deliberately underperforms in module 1 and then answers everything correctly in an easier module 2, which produced at most 580 in Math. That is specific to Math and is not a general ceiling. Any site quoting a precise cap for Reading and Writing is guessing.
    Can I work out which module 2 I received?
    Not reliably. Both second modules contain easy, medium and hard questions in different proportions, and College Board publishes no routing threshold. Counting how many questions felt hard is not evidence.
    Is the digital SAT scored on the same scale as the old paper SAT?
    Yes. Sections still run 200 to 800 and the total still runs 400 to 1600, and College Board states that digital scores are directly comparable to scores from the previous paper test. What changed is how the raw count becomes that scaled score, not the scale itself.
    What is a good digital SAT score?
    The Class of 2025 average was 1029. Among SAT takers 1020 is the 50th percentile, 1200 the 75th and 1360 the 90th. What counts as good depends on the middle 50% range at the colleges you are applying to, which the college match under the calculator shows for your estimate.
